July 20th 2008: Don't forget to look
Whilst I don't consider myself a true astrophotographer, I am nevertheless
an astronomer who takes pictures, indeed lots of them. To be honest, not
a lot are great, whilst a few I'm really rather proud of, given my limited
equipment. I'm finding that there are times when I'm so obsessed with trying
to get the "killer shot" that will get me in the mags and on the NASA "picture
of the day" that I forget the simple enjoyment of just staring down the eyepiece
and seeing things visually. It is often tempting to rush indoors and do all
the post processing but, honestly, there's enough cloudy days to do that,
so many of late that I've been revisiting solar shots of last year.
So my advice is to go out and enjoy the view while you still can.
