Melotte111

 Site Index
This is a star cluster similar in nature to the Pleiades and Hyades but is further away and slightly fainter. Some of its stars are visible to the naked eye but it needs binoculars to reveal its true potential. There is also some background nebulosity and larger telescopes will also show that many of the “stars” visible to binoculars or small fuzzy patches are really galaxies.

It is found by scanning north east from Leo’s hind quarters.

Melotte 111 is centred at RA12h 25m Dec +26 deg 00 min.

Melotte 111 can be seen from about midnight in December to just after darkness in July.
