Lunar Features
This section shows the position of some of the major lunar features and
a shot of eact of them.
Appennines
This is the most prominent mountain range on the moon that I have managed
to photograph.
Clavius
This is the largest crater in the southern highlands.
Copernicus and Kepler
These craters both show ray systems at and around full moon. They are
very close together.
Grimaldi
This is a small dark crater which can be seen from just before full moon
and throughout the waning part of the lunar cycle.
Mare Crisium
This is a small "sea" that can be spotted when the moon is a waxing crescent
in the evening sky.
Mare Serenitatis
This is a slightly larger "sea" than Mare Crisium that is best seen when
the moon is 4-6 days old or 2/3 days past full moon:
Plato
Plato is a dark crater in an area that looks a bit like a plateau. It
probably formed early on in the moon's history and was filled with lava.
Tycho
Tycho is a crater noted for its ray systems visible at and around full
moon.
